Night of the Kintels
The woman within the light smiled again then held her hands out to her
sides. “Boncha nettis gonta!” As she spoke the strange words, her hands
began to glow brighter than they already were.
Blissed! Who is this woman? Those words echoed through Chava’s head
as waves of energy rushed from the woman’s hands. The smell of singed
fur filtered through the air as yelps of pain flooded her ears. The illuminated
shadows danced about the tent as the Kintels fell to their deaths. Moments
later all was quiet. The only sounds were the gentle breeze brushing across
the torn tents and a few insects making their nightly songs.
The woman’s hands dimmed out as she lowered them. Looking down
upon Chava and her sleeping husband, she offered a smile.
“Who…are…you?” Chava could barely speak. Her mouth was dry and
her nerves were on end.
The enlightened woman smiled yet again. She held a finger to her lips
making a soft hushing sound, “Shh, Ekeydo, Olla Shalind. Tinsin Ie otto. Ie
teco ompa kellop milla shinnntalla.”
Leaning down, the woman pulled a small container from a pouch she
kept at her side. She pulled the lid off the container and removed a large
glowing substance, then placed it upon Chava’s abdomen.
Chava gasped for air. What is happening? What is this woman doing to
me? She tried to resist, but the strange woman just made another hushing
sound. A rush of energy suddenly surged through Chava’s body. The
substance absorbed quickly through the skin. She felt all tingly as goose
bumps covered her flesh. She tried to scream, but couldn't find her voice.
She looked at the strange lady with fear in her eyes.
The woman reached down and caressed Chava’s forehead as the
energy finished settling into her body. “Please, accept this child into your
home. He is our only hope. His name, is Jacob.” She then stood, took two
steps back, and vanished in a bright flash.
Chava felt her stomach where the substance once sat. She didn’t
understand at the moment, but she felt a sense of calmness, stability,
loyalty, and honor. At peace she felt. Her eyes slowly started to close as
she fell into a deep sleep.
